The Tuna Take Over
It was as if the Gulf Stream came ashore over the weekend, bringing its southern weather and fish along with it. Bluefin tuna are being caught to the east of Montauk, a few approaching 200 pounds, and a large school of yellowfin tuna assembled off the west side of Atlantis Canyon, about 75 miles from Montauk.

Que Mas wins the 2010 Bermuda Billfish Blast
The five blue marlin released by Que Mas on Day One were more than enough to comfortably win the 6th Annual Bermuda Billfish Blast. The team added a white release late during Day Two to finish with 2,700 points. This sets a new points record for the Blast, and the 5 blue marlin released on Day One are the most ever caught in a single day during a tournament in Bermuda.

Mercury in Fish More Hazardous than Nuclear Fallout
There was a line in yesterday's blog about radioactive fish that stated while radiation may sound alarming, in truth mercury is a much bigger public safety hazard. Maybe there's something to that...

Stuff That Works: Filson Foul Weather Fly Fishing Vest
Romano and others tease me about the "retro" fishing vest I wear... a Filson Foul Weather Fly Fishing Vest. But I think in fly fishing, being a creature of habit is a good thing. I think that's especially true with the vest (or pack) you wear.

Fishing Forecast
Trolling just off the Carolinas coast is excellent for dolphin.
The fish, also known as mahi mahi, have moved in unusually close to shore at many locations. At Hatteras Village this week, schools of dolphin are feeding only five miles or so out to sea.

Irvine Lake catfish and crappie on the chew
The summer bite at Irvine Lake is going pretty well, reported Jimmy Getty at the Pro Shop. "Bass fishing slacked off a little from last week?s hot bite," Getty said. "It still goes from right at dark until about 9:30 p.m. The fish are biting jigs, big plastics, dropshot baits, and buzzbaits."

Cabo San Lucas' Picante Sportfishing reports the blue marlin have arrived
JAfter all the ups and down of the last few months, it looks as if the summer routine is settling in. With baitfish not being around and the striped marlin bite being on and off, it has been a disappointing spring. Lots of striped marlin have been seen sunning on the surface -- some boats reported seeing a dozen -- but few seemed interested in lures or live bait.
