The Dept of Fisheries wishes to limit tourist fishing. | 07/11/2003 00:00:00 | The department of commerce has warned that a total ban of coastal cod fishing could have disastrous consequences for local tourist operators in the North of Norway. Fish mongers, tourist operators and pro fishermen have reacted to the plans to limit tourist fishermen to a bag limit of 20 kilograms.
The fisheries department has been challenged to take in consideration the fact that the tourist industry creates huge income for local commerce. The proposed ban could cost valuable jobs and weaken Norway’s standing in the international fishing circuit.
