Bait boats. God awful things, aren’t they? Expensive, intrusive and entirely superfluous, they really are the epitome of ostentatious and unnecessary bling. If you haven’t got the accuracy or confidence to hit the required spot, go practice. Spending a small fortune on a remote-controlled floating Batmobile is not the answer ¬ in fact, it’s tantamount to cheating.

Two new shore records set by Paignton SAA members
PAIGNTON SAA junior member Jamie Grimshaw fished a local shore mark to catch a new junior shore club record smoothhound weighing 8lb 15oz 3dm.
Earlier in the week, veteran member John Case fished a well-known Torbay shore venue to catch a new senior club record smoothhound of 13lb 4oz 7dm.

Dave Osmond triumphs in carp contest at Town Parks Fishery
PLENTY of fish on the banks kept the anglers busy at Town Parks Fishery on the outskirts of Paignton.
Dave Osmond was in the thick of the action on the Specimen Lake. Fishing peg 10 in the fishery's Torbay Angling-sponsored Carp League, Osmond banked eight carp to take the win.

Open day at Rackerhayes ponds
NEWTON Abbot Fishing Association are hosting a fish for free open day next Saturday (August 8), sponsored by the Environment Agency, NAFA, and the Angling Trust

More Gold for England's Anglers
England won the Home International Youth Fly-fishing Championship held at Grafham Water on Wednesday.
It was a breezy day which made conditions very demanding for all 56 competitors who fished from boats drifting 'loch-style' in the waves (anchoring is not allowed) but a lot of hard practice over the past three months paid off for England on the 1,500 acre Cambridgeshire reservoir.
